THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 3 Sets Premiere Date and First Look at Crowned Sauron

Amazon is officially heading back to Middle-earth this fall. Prime Video has announced that Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on November 11, and along with the date reveal came a new image teasing what’s ahead for Sauron.

The photo puts Charlie Vickers’ Dark Lord front and center wearing a crown, and it definitely feels like the series is leaning fully into Sauron’s rise to power after the events of Season 2. If there was ever any doubt that things are about to get darker and more intense in Middle-earth, this image pretty much clears that up.

The upcoming season jumps forward several years after Season 2 and drops viewers right into the escalating conflict between the Elves and Sauron during the Second Age.

According to the synopsis, Season 3 unfolds “at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war, bind all peoples to his will – and at last rule all Middle-earth.”

That setup points directly toward one of the most important moments in Tolkien lore, and it sounds like the show is finally moving into the era fans have been waiting to see play out.

Despite the mixed reactions the series has sparked since its debut, Amazon continues to tout The Rings of Power as one of its biggest streaming successes. According to the company, Season 1 still stands as Prime Video’s largest TV launch ever, while Season 2 ranks among its five most-watched returning shows based on 91-day viewership numbers.

Amazon also says the fantasy epic has pulled in more than 185 million viewers globally and remains a major driver for new Prime Video subscriptions.

Amazon MGM Studios is clearly treating the series as one of its crown jewels, and the company made that clear during its upfront presentation in New York City where the announcement was made.

Peter Friedlander, Amazon’s Head of Global Television, shared in a statement: “From the very beginning, this series has embodied the scale, ambition and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s biggest global series.

“The extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world has made it clear that this journey through Middle-earth continues to resonate, and that momentum has only grown heading into Season 3.”

Series creators J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay continue to serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and director Charlotte Brandstrom.

With Sauron now stepping fully into his role as Middle-earth’s looming nightmare and the One Ring finally entering the picture, Season 3 looks like it could deliver the large-scale war story fans have been waiting for since the series began.
