THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy Is Finally Getting a 4K Release

Peter Jackson’s epic Middle Earth trilogies The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are finally going to be available in 4K. The six films include The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

These films have been fully remastered under Peter Jackson’s direction. Also, both the extended editions and theatrical cuts of the films will be available in the 4K format.

Actor Sean Astin made the announcement on a video shared on YouTube, which you can watch below! These films will be made available in 4K on December 1st.

The Lord of the Rings are three of my favorite films of all time. They set an incredibly high standard for films that, in my opinion, has still not been reached by any other filmmaker. While The Hobbit films were fun and entertaining, they ultimately ended disappointing a lot of fans.

Warner Bros. will release each series separately in its own respective box set, including a Lord of the Rings set that will include a replica of the titular ring. WB also announced it will also release a 4K Ultra HD Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition set in summer of 2021 that will feature all six films and their theatrical and extended cuts along with an array of new bonus material and remastered Blu-ray discs of both trilogies. I might just wait for that Ultimate Collector’s Edition.

I’m excited to watch these films in 4K!
