THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU Trailer Sneaks in a Reference to Disney’s Scrapped STAR WARS Hotel
The first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu was recently released, and fans have already uncovered a surprising little Easter egg. Hidden in the background is a nod to one of Disney’s most infamous and short-lived ventures, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel.
As translated from Aurebesh, there’s a ticker that flashes in the trailer that reads: “Halycon. See the galaxy.” That’s a direct callback to the passenger star cruiser Halycon, the in-universe ship that guests boarded when checking into the Galactic Starcruiser.
How fans even spotted it is its own mystery since you actually need to flip an image in the trailer to make it legible.
The Galactic Starcruiser was one of Disney’s wildest experiments, offering a fully immersive Star Wars hotel experience. But while the idea generated initial hype, the execution fell flat.
According to SFG, the project ended up losing Disney $250 million, averaging about $2.5 million per room. Things only got worse after YouTube essayist Jenny Nicholson released a four-hour breakdown of her stay that painted a less-than-magical picture.
After running just 18 months, the hotel shuttered and has since been remembered as one of Disney’s biggest financial missteps. It’s something I never got to experience because it was so damn expensive!
While that venture crashed and burned, The Mandalorian and Grogu looks like it’s on track to deliver in a big way. The film will continue the story of Din Djarin and Grogu, the duo that carried Disney+ into a new Star Wars era.
The cast also features Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allan White, with White stepping into the role of Rotta the Hutt.
The official synopsis teases plenty of galactic adventure: “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”
Fans won’t have to wait too long to see how this next chapter unfolds. The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
