THE MANDALORIAN Director Rick Famuyiwa Taking on the Role of Executive Producer in Season 3
Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Dope) has been working on the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian since Season 1 back in 2019. He directed the second episode, "The Child," which ushered fan-favorite character Grogu into the audience’s hearts and homes. He also directed sixth episode of the first season, titled "The Prisoner," with Christopher Yost. He returned for the second season, in which he helmed the heavy-hitting, acclaimed penultimate episode, "The Believer," which saw Mando infiltrating an Imperial base and being forced to take off his helmet and reveal his face (which was previously only shown once before in the Season 1 finale).
Needless to say, he is an important member of the Mandalorian crew, and in this next season, he is taking on a new title. Last week, we got a huge amount of info and news along with trailers and art for the upcoming Star Wars projects at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, and it was announced that Famuyiwa has signed on as Executive Producer for Season 3. He joins Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson.
/Film was in attendance, and they reported that Famuyiwa talked about joining the series in the panel, and joked, "For some reason Jon [Favreau] saw my film 'Dope' and said, 'That's Star Wars material!'"
Whatever the reason, Favreau was right in hiring Famuyiwa. He is a great storyteller, and a great asset to the show.
Disney announced at Star Wars Celebration that The Mandalorian's third season will debut in February 2023 on Disney+, so we still have quite a wait, but judging by the first two seasons, it will be worth it.
