THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU Trailer Hints That STAR WARS May Be Building Its Next Saga Around Grogu

The latest trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu has a lot of fans hyped, but there’s one line that really stuck out to me. It hints at something much bigger for Grogu and the future of the Star Wars galaxy.

If you’ve been wondering where Lucasfilm might take the character next, the answer could span centuries. In the trailer, Din Djarin delivers a line that reframes everything: “The Kid Will Live Centuries beyond me.”

We’ve always known that was true. Yoda lived to be 900 years old, after all. But, having it pointed out in the trailer like this changes the perspective. It feels like Lucasfilm is planting seeds for a long-term plan, one that stretches far beyond Din’s lifetime and possibly beyond the Skywalker saga timeline altogether.

Grogu isn’t just a sidekick. He’s a character built for the long game.

Right now, Grogu’s journey is clearly steering him toward becoming something unique in the galaxy. He’s training in the ways of the Force while also embracing Mandalorian culture.

A Mandalorian Jedi isn’t officially a thing yet, but let’s be honest, that’s where this looks like it’s heading. The idea of a Force-sensitive warrior clad in beskar armor is just too cool not to explore.

Still, there’s an unavoidable truth baked into that trailer line. Din won’t always be there to protect him. Grogu’s species ages slowly, meaning he could live for hundreds of years after Din is gone. With that being the case, he’ll need to stand on his own.

Learning both Jedi and Mandalorian disciplines would make him one of the most formidable figures in the galaxy.

What’s fascinating is that there’s no rush. Grogu is still technically a child. He doesn’t need to have his destiny figured out. That flexibility gives Lucasfilm creative breathing room. If he decides later in life to fully embrace the Jedi path, it would feel earned. From a franchise perspective, that opens the door to entirely new eras of storytelling centered on him.

And here’s where things get really exciting.

Imagine a time jump. A few hundred years into the future. Grogu is older, wiser, battle-tested. Maybe he’s fully embraced both creeds. Maybe he’s forged a new one.

Seeing an older, more mature Grogu navigating a galaxy long removed from Din Djarin would be an awesome evolution of the character. It would allow Star Wars to push forward into fresh territory without being tied down by the Skywalker timeline.

Speaking of timelines, there’s also the possibility of Grogu crossing paths with Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order after The Rise of Skywalker.

A Force-sensitive being with deep ties to both the Jedi and Mandalorians showing up during that era would make perfect sense. It would connect the post-Empire storytelling of The Mandalorian to the future of the Jedi in a natural way.

Of course, the emotional core of all this is Din and Grogu together. Ideally, we’d all love to see them ride side by side for as long as possible. But if Star Wars ever chooses to explore Grogu’s adulthood, separation becomes inevitable.

At that point, if he’s wielding the Force while wearing Mandalorian armor, he’ll essentially be a Mandalorian Jedi whether the title is official or not. That’s the beauty of the character. Grogu isn’t limited to one trilogy or one era. He’s a bridge between generations.

With several upcoming Lucasfilm projects in development, it wouldn’t be surprising if Grogu plays a major role beyond The Mandalorian and Grogu. Whether that’s in future films set after The Rise of Skywalker or in a completely new saga hundreds of years later, the groundwork is already there.
