THE MANDALORIAN Panel: What We Know About the Characters So Far

I got to live stream the The Mandalorian panel this morning from Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, and it was super awesome. We learned some cool character information that we didn’t know before.

First, we were introduced to the main characters, and we learned who they are playing! Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Triple Frontier) will be playing none other than The Mandalorian. Pascal said that when he walked into the meeting with creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the storyboards were up with scenes for the series, and he said that as he was born in 1975, he was grew up with the Star Wars universe, so he would be happy playing any character.

He asked them, “Do I play a bug? Or a robot?”, and when they said, “You are the Mandalorian”, he just burst into tears. Dude, that’s so awesome. It’s so humbling and fitting that a fan gets to fill these shoes. Pascal said that his biggest inspiration for the character was Clint Eastwood. He had to channel his inner badass. The two images above are of Pascal as The Mandalorian.

Next up was Gina Carano (Deadpool), pictured above, who will play Cara Dune. We don’t know if that’s the correct spelling of the character’s name yet, but we’ve been told her character is an Ex-Rebel Shock Trooper. Favreau said the person that had the least amount of fun on the set was Carano’s stunt double, because she just didn’t get to do much.

Carano is super tough and awesome, so I can totally see that! Carano said of her character: "I'm a bit of a loner," which she said was fitting, and added, "I’m having a bit of trouble reintegrating myself into society."

Next up was Carl Weathers (Rocky, Predator) will play Greef Carga. Again, that spelling may be way off. We will find out soon enough. Here’s the description of the character from Weathers himself: "He's the head of this guild of bounty hunters," said Weathers. "He's looking for someone to bring a product to a client. It's worth a lot, very valuable. Guess who he finds? He finds a bounty hunter named Mandalorian … he hires this guy, sends him out there, and Mando does what needs to be done."

These are super awesome characters and I can’t wait to see them built upon in the series. The Mandalorian hits Disney+ when the streaming service opens on November 12th! Will you be subscribing and tuning in?
