THE MANDALORIAN's Giancarlo Esposito Teases Moff Gideon's Darksaber Skills and Force Powers
Giancarlo Esposito, who awesomely plays Moff Gideon, the leader of an Imperial remnant, in The Mandalorian, recently teased a few things regarding he character in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
There’s still so much we don’t know about the character Moff Gideon. I’m especially curious to know how he came to possess the Darksaber. This is more than just a trophy for the character, Esposito makes it very clear that Gideon knows to expertly wield the Darksaber. He also teases that Gideon might have Force powers. He explained;
"To be in the position of having that regal, graceful power but have this saber which delineates a different part of me than any other character. To have this saber means I can use it, and I can do my own dirty work, that I'm a fighter, that I'm a warrior. That's part of me. It also creates the possibility that he is one of the ones. He possibly has that, and that to me is interesting because is he really that fallen hero? Is he a descendant of Darth Vader. Who is he? What does he want? He knows all about everything, and you'll have to wait to find out. Yeah, he's actually pretty good with that Darksaber too."
There are a few interesting things he says in this quote like being a "descendant of Darth Vader," I assume that means Gideon is a follower of Vader and not a blood relative. But, I’m still not entirely sure what he means by that. “Descendant” isn’t really a word that you get mixed up with “Follower.”
Then there’s the part where he refers to Gideon as "one of the ones" and says “he possibly has that.” I imagine that here he’s saying that he is referring to those that have the Force and are able to harness the power of the Force.
The other part that caught my eye was when he refers to the character as possibly being a “fallen hero.” What was he a hero of? A hero of the Empire? A former Jedi? I can’t wait to learn more about this character, and I know we will when The Mandalorian returns this fall.
