THE MARVELS Director Nia DaCosta Says She’d Love to Direct a Live-Action INVINCIBLE Movie

Nia DaCosta might have gotten mixed fan reaction to The Marvels, but she clearly hasn’t cooled on superheroes. In fact, she’s got her eyes on one of the most intense comic book worlds out there, and she already knows exactly how she’d approach it.

While doing a Q&A on Sony Pictures’ Reddit channel to promote her upcoming horror sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, DaCosta was asked which existing franchise she’d love to tackle next. Her answer caught a lot of fans off guard. She said she would “LOVE to direct” a live-action adaptation of Invincible.

She explained why the project speaks to her so strongly, saying:

"The comic and cartoon are amazing. I know exactly how I'd want to translate that world, and that amazing father/son relationship, to screen. I also just love the idea of making something in a superhero world that has some real grit and viscera – and sex!"

Created by Robert Kirkman, best known for The Walking Dead, the story follows teenage hero Mark Grayson, voiced by Steven Yeun. Mark is trained by the most powerful superhero on Earth, his father Omni-Man, played by J.K. Simmons. What starts as a classic coming-of-age superhero setup quickly turns brutal, emotional, and deeply unsettling.

The animated series has already delivered three seasons on Prime Video, with season four locked in for a March 2026 premiere. Still, talk of a live-action movie has been floating around for years.

Back in 2017, it was announced that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were developing a big-screen adaptation, though progress since then has been slow and mostly quiet.

During that long wait, Yeun was asked if he’d want to play Mark in live action. His response was refreshingly honest.

"Well, I am 40."

When the idea of him playing Mark’s father was floated instead, Yeun didn’t shut it down:

"Yeah, we'll see. I love working with Robert. That comic is so great, and it goes so long and so deep. So, I'm excited to see that play itself out. Right now, we’re having a lot of fun making this show. Live action – who knows?"

DaCosta is obviously enthusiastic about the franchise and she’s a filmmaker who seems to understand the emotional core and raw edge of Invincible could be exactly what a live-action version needs.

Whether this ever turns into a real project is still up in the air, but if it does, DaCosta is ready to take it on if given the opportunity.
