THE MATRIX Is Returning to Theaters for Its 20th Anniversary Thanks to AMC

Can you believe that this year marks the 20th anniversary of The Matrix!? That crazy to me because it seems just like yesterday I sat down in a movie theater to watch it. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I first saw The Matrix, and like many of you, it completely blew my mind!

The Matrix is one of the most innovative and influential movies of the 20th century. The filmmaker and storytelling techniques used to bring that film to life have inspired so many other films and stories over the years.

Well, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the movie, AMC Theaters will be bringing The Matrix back to the big screen for one week and it will be presented to audiences in the Dolby Cinema format, which includes Dolby Vision picture and Dolby Atmos sound, so you’ll be able to experience the film in a way you’ve never experienced it before! I’ve watched several film in the Dolby Cinema theater, and seeing The Matrix in that format is going to be awesome! If you’ve never seen The Matrix on the big screen before, this is going to be a real treat.

The film will screen in 135 AMC Theaters around the United States from August 30th through September 5th. Here’s a description of the Dolby Theater experience:

“A premium cinema offering for moviegoers, Dolby Cinema combines state-of-the-art picture and sound. With Dolby Vision, the picture comes alive with amazing brightness and darker darks to offer a more lifelike sense of depth, rendering colors and detail unlike other movie theaters. Dolby Atmos transports guests inside the story with sound that flows all around them, including overhead. The sound in the cinema envelops viewers, making the story their reality. Guests are also able to enjoy next-level comfort with spacious, innovative recliners that pulsate with the action. Dolby Cinema fully realizes the filmmaker’s intent, putting moviegoers in the middle of the action.”

Jeff Goldstein, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, had this to say in a statement:

“Warner Bros. is proud to re-release the groundbreaking motion picture The Matrix, for the first time in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Cinema offers moviegoers an unparalleled sense of realism in how they experience this game-changing film, making it a must-see event, whether for the first time or a return to The Matrix.”

Tickets are currently sale for The Matrix 20th anniversary screenings, and you can find out which is the closest AMC Theaters location playing the limited engagement right here. Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Thomas A. Anderson is a man living two lives. By day he is an average computer programmer and by night a hacker known as Neo. Neo has always questioned his reality, but the truth is far beyond his imagination. Neo finds himself targeted by the police when he is contacted by Morpheus, a legendary computer hacker branded a terrorist by the government. Morpheus awakens Neo to the real world, a ravaged wasteland where most of humanity have been captured by a race of machines that live off of the humans’ body heat and electrochemical energy and who imprison their minds within an artificial reality known as the Matrix. As a rebel against the machines, Neo must return to the Matrix and confront the agents: super-powerful computer programs devoted to snuffing out Neo and the entire human rebellion.

Are you excited to get to see The Matrix on the big screen again? Will this be a first time experience for any of you?
