THE MATRIX: RESURRECTIONS Slapped With an R-Rating as Expected
As expected, The Matrix: Resurrections has officially landed an R-rating. It should come as no surprise to you that the reason for the R-rating is for “violence and some language.” Every film in The Matrix franchise is rated R so I didn’t expect any other rating.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
The Matrix Resurrections is a continuation of the story established in the first MATRIX film. It reunites Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as cinematic icons Neo and Trinity in an expansion of their story that ventures back into the Matrix and even deeper down the rabbit hole. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind.
Lana Wachowski is directing the movie. She wasn’t joined by her sibling Lily and in a recent interview Lily explained why she opted not to return to the franchise, saying:
“[Lana] had come up with this idea for another Matrix movie, and we had this talk, and it was actually — we started talking about it in between [our] dad dying and [our] mom dying, which was like five weeks apart. And there was something about the idea of going backward and being a part of something that I had done before that was expressly unappealing. And, like, I didn't want to have gone through my transition and gone through this massive upheaval in my life, the sense of loss from my mom and dad, to want to go back to something that I had done before, and sort of [walk] over old paths that I had walked in, felt emotionally unfulfilling, and really the opposite — like I was going to go back and live in these old shoes, in a way. And I didn't want to do that.”
The movie stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jonathan Groff, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
The Matrix: Resurrections opens in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22nd.
