The MEGA MAN Movie Will Be Helmed By NERVE Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman
The feature film adaptation of Mega Man has found its directors. The movie will be written and helmed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmakers behind the documentary Catfish and most recently the film Nerve, featuring Emma Roberts and James Franco. They are in final negotiations.
The movie is set up at 20th Century Fox and it's being produced by Heroes actor Masi Oka. Apparently, it took two years for the studio to acquire the rights to the film. Well, now that they have it and they are moving forward with the project, they better not screw it up.
Like many of you, I grew up on Mega Man! He's such a great character and I think it has solid potential to be a great movie... if it's handled right. The game was first launched in 1987 by Capcom, and the backstory followed Dr. Light and the blue android he built to be his lab assistant. They were betrayed by the villainous Dr. Wily, who stole Dr. Light’s work and made an evil robot to take over the world. To combat this robot, Dr. Light transformed his lab assistant into a battle droid and armed him with a cannon. He named him Mega Man.
The video game was followed by more video games, a series of comic books, and an animated series. I have no idea if this Mega Man movie will be live-action, CG animated, or a little of both.
I assume the movie will give us this origin story and take us to the point where Mega Man defeats Dr. Wily. I hope the directors can actually pull off something great that fans will be excited about. I think they have potential because even though Nerve wasn't the best movie in the world, I liked how they handled the story visually.
