The Most Disappointing/Worst Films of 2017... In My Opinion
I like a lot of different kinds of movies. I truly do enjoy the movie-going experience. That is why I write a lot of positive reviews. There are a lot of films out there that I enjoy that a lot of people don't. For example, you might find films like The Dark Tower, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and Ghost in the Shell on a lot of people's "worst of the year" lists. These are films that I actually enjoyed. Yeah, they weren't masterpieces, but I was still entertained by them.
It takes a lot for me not to like a movie. To make my list of worst films, the movie pretty much has to annoy the hell out of me. The ten films listed below managed to do that. These films made me squirm in my seat and cringe as I watched them.
We all have different tastes in films. You might have actually enjoyed some of the films on my list and hated the films that I did like. That's totally cool! I love the fact that everyone has different opinions on things. It's one of the things that makes life interesting. So feel free to agree or disagree with me in the comment section!
Now here's my list of disappointing and worst films of 2017:
The Mummy
I had high hopes for this movie, but it was ultimately a huge let-down. There was so much potential and it should have been so much better. Unfortunately, the story was a complete mess and I didn't like any of the characters.
The Great Wall
I was pretty excited about this one prior to it being released. I loved all of the visually stunning footage that I saw in the trailers, but as I watched the movie I couldn't help but be embarrassed for Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe who probably gave their worst performances to date. Then there was Matt Damon's stupid-ass made-up accent that drove me nuts.
Alien: Covenant
After the disaster that Prometheus was, I thought Ridley Scott would be able to get his shit together and make another great Alien film. But boy, was I wrong. The script was terrible and I was infuriated by all of the laughably foolish choices that the characters made throughout the course of the film.
Power Rangers
Yikes! I was never really into Power Rangers but almost every aspect of this movie just made me want to punch it in the face if it were a person.
The Emoji Movie
This is by far the stupidest movie of the year. The fact that someone actually thought this movie was a good idea and wanted to spend millions of dollars to make it is sad. This was a major brain fart for Sony Pictures. Not even Patrick Stewart as poop emoji could save the movie.
Geostorm
You know, because there haven't been enough terrible natural disaster movies made. I just can stand movies where people are trying to outrun mother nature.
Flatliners
I knew this remake was a bad idea from the moment it was announced. The original film was so good! Not sure why anyone thought that they would be able to do a better job. This was yet another embarrassing attempt at remaking a movie.
The Book of Henry
I was intrigued by the trailers for this movie. It had some great marketing behind it that made it feel like it would be some kind of magical Amblin-type movie. That's not what we got, though! This film about a boy-genius dying and leaving behind a plan for his mom to kill a child abuser was ridiculously absurd.
Transformers: The Last Knight
These Transformers films just seem to get worse and worse, and The Last Knight took the franchise to new lows of brainlessness. The film is filled with silly dramatic incoherence and brain-numbing visuals to try and make audiences forget that there's no real story to follow.
Rings
What was the point in resurrecting this horror franchise? I loved the first two films, but there was no point in trying relaunch the franchise, especially with a terrible film. If you're going to try and relaunch a movie franchise, you better make damn sure it's going to be better than what was previously done. Not bottom of the barrel bad.
What are some of the films that you hated from 2017?
