The Name of Poe Dameron's Squadron in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Revealed

SPOILER WARNING!

We already know that there will be Red and Blue Squadrons in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There have also been set photos from the film showing off a black and orange X-Wing fighter. That is Poe Dameron's ride, and the image above shows Dameron walking away from it. The character is played by Oscar Isaac, and according to Making Star Wars, the character he plays is a natural leader.

The site reveals the fate of Poe Dameron by the end of the movie. They report:

"By the end battle, however, Poe Dameron is leading Black Squadron. Makes sense when you have a sexy black X-wing fighter. Black Squadron sounds pretty badass!"

Yes, Black Squadron does sound badass. There's one thing I thought was interesting about this. In the Star Wars universe, the Black Squadron was the elite unit of TIE Fighter pilots serving under Darth Vader's direct command. Darth Vader was the "Black Leader."

A lot has obviously changed since Darth Vader was killed. I imagine that Black Squadron died with Vader and that the name was later picked up by the Resistance when they got their slick-looking black X-Wings.
