THE NEVERENDING STORY's Tami Stronach Cast in New Fantasy Film with Sean Astin and Christopher Lloyd
When I was a kid, I had the biggest freakin’ crush on The Childlike Empress in the 1984 fantasy film The NeverEnding Story. She was played Tami Stronach, who was recently cast in a new children’s fantasy film in development titled Man & Witch, and joining her are Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future), Michael Emerson (Lost), and Rhea Perlman (Cheers).
Man & Witch will be directed by Rob Margolies (She Wants Me) from a script written by Stronach's husband, Greg Steinbruner.
The film is described as a "heartwarming homage to the lo-fi fantasy films of the 80s," and a "comic adventure that both fulfills and subverts the expectations of what a fantasy universe can be." Stronach will play a “reclusive, yet powerful and mysterious witch who loses her heart to a hapless goatherd when he hires her to break a curse by an evil wizard.”
You’ll also be happy to learn that The Jim Henson Creature Shop has been hired to create the puppets for the film. Those include the comic roles of “talking sheep, goose and dog, which will be portrayed by a mixture of real animals and puppets.”
This sounds like a cool film project, and I’m excited to see what comes of it! I’m a huge fan of ‘80s fantasy films so seeing a movie that pays homage to those is something that I can totally get behind. Also, the cast is awesome!
