HBO has shared a featurette for the Joss Whedon-created genre-bending series The Nevers. It includes the cast of the series discussing the story and the exciting world that it’s set in. They also open up about what we can expect from the show and there’s some cool new footage that is shown off.

The Nevers is an “epic science-fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.”

I’ve been hearing great things about the show from people who have seen it and I’m looking forward to watching it for myself when it’s released.

The story is set in the last years of Queen Victoria’s reign. “London is beset by the ‘Touched’: people – mostly women – who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities – some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of… well, pretty much all the forces – to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.”

The cast for the series also includes Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Rochelle Neil, Eleanor Tomlinson, Nick Frost, Amy Manson, Pip Torrens, Denis O’Hare, Zackary Momoh, Elizabeth Berrington, Kiran Sawar, Anna Devlin, Viola Prettejohn, and Ella Smith.

Whedon served as the writer, director, executive producer, and showrunner of the series during the first half of production, and then he bowed out. HBO ended up replacing him with Philippa Goslett, who is now the showrunner and an executive producer.

The Nevers debuts on HBO this Sunday, April 11, 2021.
