The New Cards in the YU-GI-OH! 2020 Mega Tin Are Disappointing
Konami recently revealed four cards that would be available in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 2020 Tin of Lost Memories. We already knew that the ridiculously powered Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon was going to be included, but the other three cards were a mystery. Well, Konami got Dan Green to make the announcement over on YouTube, and I think the entire community was disappointed. The World Premiere cards revealed were Successor Soul which might be somewhat useful, Destined Rivals which will probably never see play, and Strength in Unity which might see play, but probably not. These cards will all be part of the “Mega Pack mega-set.” Each tin contains 3 Mega Packs and each Mega Pack includes 1 Prismatic Secret Rare, 2 Ultra Rares, 2 Super Rares, 1 Rare, and 12 Commons.
Successor Soul lets you tribute an Effect Monster in order to target and send (not destroy) one of your opponent’s Effect Monsters to the graveyard. Then, you can Special Summon a level 7+ Normal Monster from your hand or deck. This could be somewhat useful for people who want to use Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Dark Magician in order to bring out REDD, but most people aren’t going to deal with bringing REBD in their decks. The other advantage is that it is a Quick-Play Spell, but I still don’t see much use for this card.
Destined Rivals will never see play. First, it’s a Trap Card, and most duelists don’t use traps anymore unless they are like Infinite Impermanence and can be activated from the hand. Then, this requires you to have either Dark Magician or Blue-Eyes White Dragon on the field. The actual effect itself isn’t bad in that it negates your opponent’s monster effects, but they could probably very easily just negate this card. It’s a much more restrictive version of Dark Ruler No More that can be negated.
Finally, Strength in Unity. I can maybe, kind of see people playing this card, but I don’t think it’s going to be all that useful. It’s all about using your BEWD or DM fusions and rituals in order to target any card your opponent controls or in their graveyard and banish it. You can also send Strength in Unity to the graveyard to get a level 7+ Normal Monster back from your graveyard to your hand or shuffled into the deck. Someone might be able to find some cool combos with it, but it isn’t coming across as very helpful.
I think these cards disappointed a large number of fans. Personally, I’ve been dreading the arrival of REDD and these other cards are lackluster to me. Am I completely wrong about these cards? Do you plan on using them in your deck? The 2020 Tin of Lost Memories will release on August 28.
