The New HOBBS AND SHAW Footage Screened at CinemaCon Was Adrenaline-Fueled Insanity!
Universal Pictures shared a brand new trailer for Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s Fast and Furious spinoff film Hobbs and Shaw, and the footage that was featured in it was completely off the chain! It was packed full of adrenaline-fueled insanity… to the max!
This movie looks like it goes above and beyond anything that the Fast and Furious franchise has ever done. When talking about the film during the presentation, Johnson said, “We wanted to create our own tapestry and have fun. I can’t stress that enough. This is fun.” This might end up being the most fun movie of the year! When you see the trailer for yourself, you’ll see.
I will say that whatever you are imagining in your head what this movie will be, it’s a lot crazier than that. They went all out on this movie and I can see why Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson were upset that Johnson is making it, because it seriously takes the franchise to a new level.
The movie is said to stay true to the whole “family” aspect of the franchise and this one will not only focus on the English roots of Statham’s Dekard Shaw, but it will also focus on the Samoan roots of Johnson. There is a scene in the new trailer that shows Hobbs and Shaw going to the independent state of Samoa where they will prepare for an all-out war against Idris Elba’s super villain character Brixton who is on a mission to steal a deadly virus to infect the world’s population.
When they get to Hobbs’ family home in Samoa, he learns that his mom got rid of all of their guns, so they are awesomely forced to use traditional Samoan tribal gear and weapons to fight! As the little Samoan army faces off with Brixton’s army they end up doing a traditional Samoan war dance and then the rush into battle.
This is just one of several extremely action-packed sequences that we were shown! It all leads to a truly epic sequence in which a bunch of vehicles are being chased down by a military helicopter. The vehicle in the lead ends up flying through the air somehow and Johnson leaps up and hooks giant chains to the helicopter. At the same time the other cars' drivers are connecting chains to one another to link all of their vehicles together as they approach a cliff. They then drive off the cliff and as the linked cars fly over the edge one after another Johnson holds them together with the chains attached to the helicopter and the cars to keep them from falling… with his bare hands.
I have no idea when this trailer is going to be released, but I can’t wait for you to see it so you can get just as excited for the movie as I am!
Here’s the synopsis:
Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America's Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.
But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.
Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.
Directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2) from a script by longtime Fast & Furious narrative architect Chris Morgan, the film will be released on August 2nd, 2019.
