The New LORD OF THE FLIES Movie Will Be Written By A MONSTER CALLS Writer Patrick Ness
Warner Bros. is moving forward with their plans to adapt William Golding’s influential 1954 novel Lord of the Flies with the hiring of screenwriter Patrick Ness. New is the author of the YA best-sellers Chaos Walking and A Monster Calls. He also wrote the screenplay for A Monster Calls, which was a wonderfully written film.
The movie is being directed by Call Me by Your Name and Suspiria director Luca Guadagnino, and he previously said that he plans to develop a story that “stays true to the text but with a contemporary, ultra-kinetic feel.”
Lord of the Flies is a favorite book of mine it was one of the first books I read growing up as a kid that completely grabbed my attention and drew me in. I also liked both the 1963 film adaptation as well as the 1990 film. I’m serious to see what this new take on the story will be like.
The original story follows a group of British school boys who end up stranded on a deserted island and over time they descend into a savage social order. The story is described as “a dark allegory on the primal urges shallowly buried beneath humanity’s skin, Lord of the Flies sees the survivors split into two groups, led by Ralph and Jack. While Ralph’s group tries to maintain some semblance of order, Jack’s slowly falls into savagery and idol worship; violence and tragedy follows.”
So far there’s some solid talent attached to the movie. What do you think about Lord of the Flies being adapted into a film again?
