THE NEW MUTANTS Director Josh Boone Says "You Can Only Go Up After DARK PHOENIX"

Due to the current situation that the world has found itself in, the release of director Josh Boone’s The New Mutants has been delayed again. We have no idea when the film will be released, but Boone is very confident in the film he made and thinks audiences are going to love it.

During an interview with Empire, Boone was asked if he felt any extra pressure after the critical and commercial failure of director Simon Kinberg's Dark Phoenix, and he makes it clear that’s not something he’s worried about. He said:

"Look, you can only go up after Dark Phoenix. That's not to say anything bad about the people involved, but it was what it was. Honestly, I feel less pressure now than I did ahead of [the first slated release date]. Because we've tested our movie so many times, and audiences have loved it.

I’m excited about seeing this movie, and I think it’s going to end up being a great movie. I’m happy to see that audiences who have seen the film already have loved it. That gives me hope that this movie is going to deliver what I was hoping for.

As for Dark Phoenix, that movie was a complete mess, and I don’t blame anyone who takes swipes at it as Boone did here.

The New Mutants is “an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.”

This place that the mutants are in is not a hospital. It takes their greatest fear and makes them live through it until it kills them. The version of the film that we will be seeing has been confirmed to be the original cut that the director intended to release.

The cast for the film includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as fallen Mirage.
