The New NASA Spacesuits Were Designed By The Costume Designer of The Marvel and DC Films
I loved the cool and sleek designs of the new NASA and SpaceX spacesuits that were worn by the crew of the Dragon Demo-2 when that launched into space to dock with the International Space Station. I kept thinking, these suits look like they come right out of a sci-fi film!
Well, it turns out that the suits were designed by Ironhead Studios' Jose Fernandez. He has worked on several Marvel and DC movies including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War, and was responsible for creating Thor and Loki's helmets and Spidey's mask in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Fernandez explained in a recent interview with Forbes that when he was approached by Space X, he thought they wanted him for a movie that he thought they were working on:
"I didn't know what SpaceX was, and I thought it was a film. [Musk] kept saying, 'Anyone looks better in a tux, no matter what size or shape they are,' and when people put this space suit on, he wants them to look better than they did without it, like a tux. You look heroic in it."
Well, I think that Fernandez pulled off what Elon Musk wanted him to create. Spacecraft commander Douglas Hurley and joint-operations commander Robert Behnken both looked pretty damn heroic.
