The New RESIDENT EVIL Movie Is Titled RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY
Sony Pictures and Screen Gems have announced that the title for director Johannes Roberts’ upcoming Resident Evil movie will officially be titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
The film will tell an origin story that will include “faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games,” and it’s set to take place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998. It will basically adapt the first two games in the franchise.
The movie is also said to kick off “a new universe inspired by storylines and characters from Capcom’s classic Resident Evil games.” Here’s the announcement, which was shared on Twitter:
The movie is being directed and written by Johnannes Roberts, who previously shared:
“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”
The film’s cast includes Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin. Donal Logue (Gotham) has also been cast in the role of Chief Irons.
The new Resident Evil feature film reboot is set to hit theaters on Labor Day weekend, September 3rd, 2021.
