The New Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel Comics is... Loki?

In the comics, there have been many Sorcerer Supremes. In fact, one comic series just wrapped up featuring a whole team of them from different time periods. Doctor Strange has been the most well-known, but amongst the many who have played the role, most have been benevolent and respectful of the dangers of magic.

Enter Loki. God of Mischief and as of recent, God of Stories. But that's a whole other... well... story. It appears Loki will be taking over as the Sorcerer Supreme coming up in a few months in the comic though. For whatever reason, Doctor Strange loses the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme and Loki takes it up. Loki is a good pick. He is a powerful magician in his own right, and while he has been quite villainous in the past, the Loki we've seen as of late is actually pretty good.

Part of that has to do with the fact that Loki is in fact not Loki but Ikol who killed child Loki and took his place but the other Loki also somehow exists and- You know, the whole story of who Loki is and isn't right now is way too complicated for this article, but let's just say for now, that Loki isn't really all that bad. And as far as powers, he certainly has quite a bit of it.

That is part of the problem with Doctor Strange currently. Some anti-magic robots came to earth and took away a lot of the magic. Strange was able to defeat them, but the remaining magic is little and far and few between. Strange has some power, but much of what he has is from artifacts he's gathered. Perhaps the reason Strange loses his right to the title is because he isn't powerful enough to stop whatever trouble is coming. That is a large part of being the Sorcerer Supreme after all. Protecting Earth from magic threats. If the "powers that be" feel Strange isn't going to be strong enough to take whatever is coming, maybe they hand the powers to Loki.

What would be great is having Strange be somewhat of a tutor to Loki. I mean sure Loki knows how to magic, but is still new at being good. It would be awesome to see Strange teach him how to use his magic responsibly. But that's just my take. I am a huge fan of Loki, especially in the comics and would love for some more growth for him. We'll have to wait til November to find out exactly what happens. Until then, all we can do is dream.
