The New STAR WARS Project Being Developed by the GAME OF THRONES Creators Seems to Be a Trilogy
When it was initially announced that Game of Thrones executive producers and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were going to be working on a Star Wars film project, we were just told that it would be a series of films. There was no word on how many films that might be, but today we have an answer.
While talking to TV Line, HBO president Casey Bloys revealed that the Star Wars project that Benioff and Weiss are working on is a trilogy. When asked about the status of the controversial Confederate series, Bloys said:
“Dan and David are finishing up the final season [of Game of Thrones] and then they are going to go into the Star Wars universe. When they come out of that, I assume they will come back to us.”
Bloys went on to offer the big reason for the delay, saying:
“The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies.”
So, it looks like we can expect a trilogy from these guys, which may make fans happy. It seems like it takes a lot to get some Star Wars fans excited about the upcoming films that are in development.
We know that this new trilogy will be separate from the Skywalker saga, and Disney CEO Bob Iger previously had this to say about it::
"Their interest was in creating a series of films that are Star Wars-based and we've actually been talking to them for a long time. To my knowledge they didn’t express interest in creating a series. They have an idea for number of films and at some later date I'm sure we'll disclose to all of you just what those are. They are focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology and taking it from there."
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this new slate of Star Wars films! The fact that it will be set in a new corner of the galaxy and focus on completely new characters is exciting!
