The New TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Sequel Directors Fired a Week Into Shooting and Replaced
It looks like there must be some heavy behind-the-scenes drama for Legendary Pictures’ upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel. A week into shooting in Bulgaria, directors Andy and Ryan Tohill (The Dig) were fired over some creative differences.
Those directors have already been replaced by David Blue Garcia, an Emmy-winning director-cinematographer whose feature film debut was the $58,000 budget Tejano, which was released on HBO in January.
According to Deadline, “the abrupt change was made over the last 48 hours because financier Legendary didn’t spark to what it saw.” With that being the case, all of the footage shot will be trashed and Garcia will re-shoot from scratch.
This new Texas Chainsaw movie “returns to the roots of the Hooper and Kim Henkel creation that was considered one of the scariest films of its era, even though most of the splatter was implied and not shown.” It’s explained that this sequel picks up where Tobe Hooper’s classic 1974 film left off.
I’m curious to see what comes of this, but I’m honestly not expecting much. I’m pretty sure that it’ll just end up being more of the same. I’m a huge fan of the original movie, though! That movie messed me up when I first saw it!
The original movie followed two siblings, and three of their friends en route to visit their grandfather’s grave in Texas. On their journey, they end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths and must survive the terrors of Leatherface and his family.
Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez is producing the film. Are any of you even interested in seeing this movie?
