The New THUNDERCATS ROAR Animated Series Gets a Cartoon Network Premiere Date

Cartoon Network has been producing a new ThunderCats animated series titled ThunderCats Roar for awhile now. They recently shared the first episode of the series on the Cartoon Network app, and it’s now been announced that the series will debut on the actual Cartoon Network channel on Saturday, February 22nd.

The series is supposed to be a comedic take on the classic ThunderCats series, but I’m definitely not a fan of it. I don’t like the bubbly cute animation style and I just didn’t find that first episode funny or entertaining at all. All I can say is that they must have targeted the series towards little kids because it’s definitely not for fans of the original show.

The series was originally supposed to air on Cartoon Network last year, but it was delayed for some reason. Here’s the official logline for the series:

Staying true to the premise of the original series, Lion-O and the ThunderCats — Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykat, and Wilykit — barely escape the sudden destruction of their home world, Thundera, only to crash land on the mysterious and exotic planet of Third Earth. Lion-O, the newly appointed Lord of the ThunderCats, attempts to lead the team as they make this planet their new home. A bizarre host of creatures and villains stand in their way, including the evil Mumm-Ra, Third Earth’s wicked ruler who will let nothing, including the ThunderCats, stop his tyrannical reign over the planet.

I don’t know what exactly it’s staying true to, but… okay. Producer Victor Courtright previously explained:

"I think the world that they built lends itself really well to comedy because of how silly and crazy and outlandish those ideas are and some of those settings are. But at the same time, it wouldn’t be ThunderCats if it didn’t have super cool action elements because that’s what people came back to. It’s very much something that we want to lean on. So with the new show, we’re not walking away from the action in any bit. Every step we take towards comedy, we take two more towards really cool action scenes and explosions and lasers and actions effects."

Maybe some people might enjoy this series, and if you do… to each their own. It just didn’t click with me. I have a couple of new episode titles as well as the synopses for upcoming episodes to share with you as well.

"The Legend of Boggy Ben"

Lion-O has gotten a hold of the last jar of Thundersnaps, the best cookies Thundera had to offer! But a difficult to open cookie jar is gonna send Lion-O and Cheetara chasing down a legend, a Boggy Ben-related legend.

"Prank Call"

Lion-O wants to prove to the ThunderKittens that he’s not just some boring old adult, like Tygra, even if it means ignoring his instincts and messing with an obviously evil crystal.

Watch the trailer for the series below and let us know if you’ll be watching:

Fleeing the destruction of their home planet Thundera, Lion-O and the ThunderCats land on the mysterious, dangerous, all-around awesome world of Third Earth! But their enemies, the Mutants of Plun-Darr have followed them and it turns out Third Earth already has a Mumm-Ra problem, can Lion-O learn the ropes of being a leader in time?
