The Next PURGE Film will End The Franchise and The Creator Has a "Really Cool" Idea For It

It looks like The Purge franchise is finally coming to and end. The horror thriller has had a decent run and has raked in more than $69 million at the box office.

I liked the first film in the franchise but as the films continued to roll out I just lost interest. There’s also currently a TV series that didn’t manage to grab my attention. I know the franchise has a fan base though, so those fans might be bummed out to learn that the next film will be the last one.

While talking to EW, creator James DeMonaco explains that he has an idea for a really cool ending, saying:

“I have it in my head. I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”

Even though I’ve lost interest in the franchise over the years, I am interested to see what DeMonaco has planned for the ending. He did create a fascinating and brutal world.

I imagine the film will pick up after the events of The Purge: Election Year, which saw the presidential candidate of the New Founding Fathers of America, Minister Edwidge Owens, lose the election to Senator Charlie Roan.

With Roan’s campaign focused on ending The Purge once and for all, the NFFA’s staged violent uprisings across the nation to protest the ending of the tradition. That’s the stage that has been set for the final film.

Do you have any theories on how The Purge franchise could end? How would you want to see it come to a close?
