The Next TOMB RAIDER Game Will "Unify" The Reboot Trilogy With The Original Classic Games
The Tomb Raider video game franchise is going to head in an interesting direction. The next game is said to “unify” the more recent reboot trilogy with the original game from the 90s. From there, the future stories will be set after the events of the classic Tomb Raider games.
The news comes from a recently shared video announcing the franchise's 25th anniversary celebrations, which are going to take place over the course of the year. Crystal Dynamics' executive producer, Dallas Dickinson, teased the future of the franchise, and director Will Kerslake offered the following details:
"[Crystal Dynamics'] origin trilogy back in 2013 told the story of Lara's early days [...] while the classic games featured a seasoned and confident adventurer, travelling the world, unlocking its secrets, often standing alone against cataclysmic forces. We envision the future of Tomb Raider unfolding after these established adventures, telling stories that build upon the breadth of both Core Design and Crystal Dynamics' games, working to unify these timelines."
I’m actually excited about this direction that they’re taking, but Kerslake explains that it won’t be an easy task, due to Tomb Raider's "extensive history", and it sounds like they have a long way to go. Kerslake says:
“This is not an easy task, and we ask for your patience as we go through the development process. We don't have plans for a major game announcement in the near future."
The Tomb Raider franchise has a couple of other things in development including the upcoming feature film sequel that’s in development along with an anime series coming to Netflix. So, we’ve got plenty of Tomb Raider entertainment coming our way.
