THE ODYSSEY Trailer Reveals The Asylum's Latest Mockbuster and It Looks Every Bit as Rough as You'd Expect

The Asylum is back with another mockbuster, and this time it's setting its sights on one of the greatest stories ever told. A trailer has been released for The Odyssey, the studio's low-budget take on Homer's legendary Greek epic, and... well, it certainly looks like an Asylum movie.

If you've seen the studio's previous releases, you probably already know what you're getting into. Cheap-looking visual effects, questionable performances, and action sequences that often look like they were assembled as quickly as possible have become part of The Asylum's brand. Somehow, there's still an audience for these movies, and the studio keeps cranking them out.

The new trailer doesn't do much to change that reputation. It follows the familiar story of Odysseus as he attempts to make his way back to Ithaca after the Trojan War, battling monsters, mythical creatures, and angry gods along the way.

Unfortunately, many of those creatures, effects, and several other shots have the appearance of AI-generated imagery.

The official synopsis reads: “Based on the Ancient Greek epic. After ten years of war, King Odysseus sets sail for Ithaca, eager to reunite with his beloved. But his journey home is far more treacherous than the battlefield, as he must face deadly monsters and vengeful gods to survive.”

The film is directed by Marcel Walz from a screenplay by Joshua Pruett, and stars Dominic Keating, Myrom Kingery, and Morgan Flanagan.

If you enjoy watching these low-budget mockbusters for the unintentional laughs, this may end up being right in your wheelhouse.

The Odyssey is now available to watch.
