The Original Pitch For SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW Put a Major Focus on Abomination's Trial
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law head writer Jessica Gao recently offered some details regarding the first pitch she made for the Marvel series. That pitch includes a much bigger role for Tim Roth's Abomination. But, she does explain that the show that she made is still close to her initial pitch. She told Variety:
"My pitch for the show is pretty close to the show that you're watching. All the kind of key foundational elements were there: Emil Blonsky/Abomination was always in the pitch. Bruce was always in the pitch. I didn't know if I could use them. I didn't know what their relationship was to Abomination anymore. But I thought, you know what? This is what I want – so I'll just pitch it. Thankfully, they liked all of it.
Gao goes on to reveal that the original pitch would have put a major focus on the trial of Abomination:
“When I went in, it definitely skewed a lot more heavily towards Blonsky's trial. In my original pitch, it was an actual trial and it spanned multiple episodes. When we got into the writers' room, inevitably things change as you're developing the show and as you start writing. And one thing that we all realized very slowly was none of us are that adept at writing, you know, rousing trial scenes."
At least Abomination still has a decent-sized role in the show. That’s a character I honestly never expected to see in the MCU again, but here he is! I love that they brought him back.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters “as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.” The show also stars Mark Ruffalo as Smart Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/the Abomination, and Benedict Wong as Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
She-Hulk is now available to watch on Disney+ today, August 18th!
