The Original PREDATOR Screenplay Is Being Adapted Into a Comic by Dark Horse

The original unused screenplay for the 1987 action movie classic Predator is going to be adapted into a comic book thanks to Dark Horse. That original script, which was originally titled Hunters, was written by James E. Thomas and John C. Thomas. They also wrote the script that ended up being used for the film.

The story centers on a group of military specialists on a classified rescue mission. As they are on the mission, “the team soon uncovers a trail of lies and deceit. Something is observing them — tracking their every move. The hunt has begun!”

The comic will consist of five-issues, and it will be written by Jeremy Barlow (Alien vs. Predator: Thicker Than Blood) with art by Patrick Blaine (Star Wars: Empire). Barlow said in a statement:

"There’s excitement in seeing what might have been. The bones of Predator are there, but the original idea was so different and in some ways, much deeper than what the movie became — and we lean hard into those differences. Turn all of that over to a pair of dynamic artists like Patrick Blaine and Andy Owens, and the results are spectacular. Predator fans are going to lose their minds!"

Blaine added:

"The first Predator movie is such an iconic, cultural classic. To be involved with Dark Horse, re-imagining it from the original script, is an artist's dream come true! Jeremy Barlow's script adaptation has been a pure joy to work from, and I think fans of the genre will enjoy this wild new ride through a familiar old tale!"

The original film has some of the best one-liners in movie history. It’ll be interesting if this original script features some of those lines or if it will be filled with all new ones! I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this alternate story plays out!

Predator: The Original Screenplay #1 goes on sale Wednesday, June 10th.
