The Original Teaser Trailer For Steven Spielberg's POLTERGEIST is Awesome Movie Marketing!
Producer Steven Spielberg and director Tobe Hopper’s Poltergeist is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. The movie was released in 1982 and it’s a film that I’ve never seen in a movie theater, which makes me sad.
I was just a little kid when this movie was released and I was never exposed to the marketing for it, so I had no idea there was an early teaser trailer released until a friend of mine pointed it out to me!
We just don’t get movie marketing like this anymore! The teaser features real paranormal investigators talking about what a Poltergeist is and what it’s capable of. There’s also a great voiceover narration introducing the film that explains that it’s “the first real ghost story.”
The trailer doesn’t feature much footage, it’s mostly packed with images from the film that are cut together with the interviews. It then ends with footage from the film of the kids in the story being terrorized by the poltergeist. It’s brilliant marketing! Hollywood needs to get creative again with how they market their films.
