The Original TEEN TITANS Cartoon May Return
I’ve rated the original Teen Titans cartoon as one of my top 3 anime-influenced cartoons. I have been re-watching the series on DVD with my wife and it’s reminding me how great the show is for adults and kids. I have not been able to bring myself to watch Teen Titans GO!. I know I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but the little bits I’ve seen here and there make me feel like it’s a joke and a very childish cartoon. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that when you consider the target audience. Imagine my excitement though when I found out one of the producers, Michael Jelenic, of Teen Titans GO! came out and said that he “can almost guarantee” a return of the original cartoon. This announcement was made at WonderCon last weekend and that is a bold statement.
This is great for fans of the original who wanted to see it continue. It’s also great for fans of Teen Titans GO! who maybe feel like they need something that feels a bit more grown up. We live in a world of remakes and reboots, so it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that this is even being considered. While I am sick of hearing news of reboots, I can’t help but feel excitement for this one. There is something that we need to talk about though. Oversaturation.
I would love for Teen Titans to return and for them to continue giving us the stories in the same style as the original cartoon. However, Teen Titans GO! is still airing with a movie coming out later this year. Add to that the live-action series Titans that DC is making for their own streaming platform. That’s already two Teen Titans. Plus, we have Young Justice returning which is fairly similar to Teen Titans TV shows. I think this is a great idea, but part of me hopes it doesn’t happen for a while. Remember, no official announcement has been made, so it’s possible that this won’t even be a thing.
