The Original Trailer For Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO is Marketing Genius
When legendary director Alfred Hitchcock made Psycho, he was doing something so radically different from anything that he or any other filmmaker had done before at the time. Not only was the subject matter controversial, but it was a low-budget movie that Hitchcock put his own money into because no studio wanted to fund it.
Hitchcock staked his career and reputation on this film and luckily for him, Psycho ended up being a huge hit. Audiences loved it and the film is still considered a masterpiece. Psycho is a brilliant film, and the filmmaker used brilliant marketing tactics to promote it.
One of these genius marketing moves was the trailer that he made and released for it. The six-minute trailer hardly featured any footage from the film, it mostly focused on Hitchcock giving audiences a tour of the set of the film while awesomely teasing the story. It’s one of my favorite movie trailers of all time because it breaks all conventions but also does a great job of getting audiences to want to see the movie!
I know a lot of people who haven’t seen this trailer because they never bothered to look it up, so i thought it would be fun to share it with you. We just don’t see cool unique stuff like this anymore!
