THE OWL HOUSE Season 3 is Off to a Phenomenal Start with "Thanks to Them" Given the Conditions

The Owl House is a fantastic animated series on Disney Channel. The story, characters, and world are a lot of fun and I am so glad that the first of three specials that are comprising the third and final season is out. Disney Channel was kind enough to share a screener with me so I could watch and share my thoughts. You can watch the special on YouTube now and I’ve even included it below. There are some spoilers ahead, although I’ll do my best to keep them light. You can watch the entire first two seasons on Disney+ now.

I loved the first special titled “Thanks to Them.” In case you missed the memo, season three of The Owl House was condensed into three 44-minute specials. This means that a lot of things most likely had to be cut and hurried along. In “Thanks to Them,” we get a feeling for this as instead of the traditional opening credits we get a montage of many things that happen. This includes Luz coming out as bisexual to her mom, the group cleaning up the old shack and trying to think of how to build a portal, some fashion changes, and more. I get the feeling that a fair amount of the items from the montage would’ve been episodes had they been granted the time.

The rest of the special has a lot of ground to cover. We have everyone trying to figure out how to make a portal to the Demon Realm, Luz has to go back to school, Luz is swimming in guilt, Camilla has all of these Demon Realm refugees and her daughter to care for and help, Hunter has stuff going on since he recently found out he’s a grimwalker, and more. These are all things that get addressed in 45 minutes and it feels rushed. I want to hand it to Dana Terrace and her team though as it is really well done all things said. Yes, it feels rushed and hurried, but the important plot points are done in a complete manner. There are a couple of surprises sprinkled throughout, and some amazing moments like Camilla freaking out about Gus and Hunter finding and using some sci-fi cosplay that had been hidden away.

The Owl House’s third season is off to an incredible start. I am so sad that the season has been truncated into three specials. This one special had enough content to fill a minimum of 5 episodes easily and I’m sure that the others will have just as much. My hat is off to Terrace and her team for how well they’ve done on “Thanks to Them.” Given the circumstances, this special is incredibly well done. Stop reading this and go watch the show now!
