The PACIFIC RIM Franchise Could Actually Crossover With GODZILLA and KING KONG

There's been talk about Pacific Rim crossing over with Godzilla for years. At one point, Guillermo del Toro said that he'd like to see Godzilla show up in Pacific Rim 3. It sounds like this crossover could actually happen after a third film and it would also include King Kong. 

Pacific Rim Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight recently talked to Collider and it's during this interview that he reveals that talks about this crossover have actually taken place. He says that it would be a natural step for the franchises:

"I won’t say there’s an Easter Egg but there’s been a lot of discussion about that possibility [of crossing over]. Look I think it would be fantastic to have the Pacific Rim universe join Legendary’s Monster Universe, it seems like a natural step. And part of the big overall plan after the third movie we’ve talked about is that could happen, it’s always a possibility. It’s by far not a certainty; it’s merely theoretical at this point, but as a fan myself I would love to see that happen."

It would certainly be a ton of fun to see all of these giant robots and famous creatures collide in a movie. Of course, before any decisions are made and set in stone, the studio is going to wait and see how Pacific Rim Uprising turns out at the box office. Remember, this sequel barely got made in the first place!

If the sequel bombs, there' no chance of seeing a crossover with Godzilla and King Kong. I'd actually be fine with that. Sure, it would be a blast to see the crossover happen, but we've got plenty of other monster movies coming that will keep me entertained. DeKnight is definitely leaving the movie open for a third chapter, though. He explains:

“Oh we definitely leave it open to another installment. The tricky thing with something like this is you want to not end on a cliffhanger. It has a definitive ending but very much open to the next chapter.”
