THE PITT Scrubs in for Season 3 at HBO Max
HBO Max has officially renewed The Pitt for a third season, locking in more high-pressure hours inside one of television’s most intense emergency rooms.
The announcement came straight from Casey Bloys, who revealed the news during the Season 2 premiere event at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles. The timing couldn’t be better, with the Emmy-winning second season set to debut today.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt first premiered in 2025 and quickly separated itself from other medical dramas with a tightly focused structure. Each season unfolds over a single hospital shift, told across 15 episodes, with every episode covering one hour of real time.
That format has given the series a relentless pace and a grounded intensity that audiences and critics clearly responded to.
The first season landed an impressive 13 Emmy nominations and took home five wins, including best drama, drama casting, and acting awards for Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, and Shawn Hatosy. Earlier this week, the series picked up additional recognition with two Actor Award nominations and two DGA Award nominations.
Bloys previously spoke about what made the show viable on both a creative and production level, especially in an era where long-running, annually released dramas have become rare.
“It’s hard to make any good show, regardless of whether it’s comedy, drama or documentary. But what John and Noah and Scott wanted to do going in was to do a high-quality show, but also one that was set up in a way that you could do 15 episodes.
“So, the concept of the show being on essentially one set made the budget manageable,” Bloys told Variety after the Emmy wins. “And you have a group of people who understand how to make 15 episodes, but also how to bring it back on an annual basis. That is the one thing I think that we’ve gotten away from in television, that ability to bring shows back on an annual basis.”
Wyle leads the ensemble as the emotional anchor of the series, joined by LaNasa, Hatosy, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez. Season 2 also welcomed Sepideh Moafi as Dr. Al-Hashimi.
With Season 3 officially on the way, The Pitt continues to prove that smart structure, strong performances, and disciplined storytelling can still deliver a must-watch drama year after year. For fans who’ve been hooked since that first shift began, the wait for another long night in the ER just got a lot more exciting.
