THE POLAR EXPRESS Producer Says Sequel Is Being "Worked Out" and Wants a Sequel to WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

According to producer Gary Goetzman, a sequel to the 2004 Christmas film The Polar Express is in the works. He also mentions his interest in making a sequel to 2009’s Where The Wild Things Are and a third Mamma Mia movie. None of these projects have been officially greenlit, but they are projects that he will be pushing for. He revealed this information during a recent interview with CB, he was asked about The Polar Express 2, and he said:

“Listen, I’d love to,” Goetzman said about The Polar Express 2. “I’d love to do a sequel of Where The Wild Things Are. There’s a lot of the things that we’ve done, if it established itself, branded itself, those movies, studios want another one. That’s the way it goes. I’m up for Mamma Mia 3, man. That would be a ball to do right about now. But it becomes, there’s so much involved with, ‘Who’s artistic property would that be? Would that be?’ It’s just not like, ‘Hey, let’s go do another free sailing! So, they all take time and that’s okay because we don’t mind things going slowly. But that is trying to be worked out now, for sure, Polar 2. Yes.”

The Polar Express was directed by Robert Zemeckis and starred Tom Hanks. It was based on Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 children’s book of the same name. It’s a holiday favorite and I don’t think fans would object to a sequel. With how much filmmaking technology has advanced from the first film, it would be interesting to see what a sequel would look like visually.

Where the Wild Things Are was such a wonderful film, and it was directed by Spike Jonze, and based on the beloved children's book by Maurice Sendak. The movie tells the story of Max, a young boy with a vivid imagination who escapes into a fantastical world inhabited by giant, expressive creatures known as the Wild Things. Max becomes their king and embarks on a journey of self-discovery and adventure in this magical land.

As for a third Mamma Mia movie, my daughter would sure love to see that happen. She has a deep love for those first two films.
