THE POWERPUFF GIRLS is Getting a Live-Action Series Adaptation at The CW
The classic Cartoon Network series The Powerpuff Girls is getting a live-action series adaptation thanks to The CW. This is an animated series that I enjoyed watching with my girls when they were younger. It was a fun series and it’s pretty crazy that it’s getting the live-action treatment.
The series will center on the titular superheroes who “are now disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”
That could actually be fun. The original animated series was created by Craig McCracken. In the story, Professor Utonium accidentally created the elementary school aged super team of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup by combining sugar, spice, and everything nice with the mysterious Chemical X.
The show ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2005. There was also a Powerpuff Girls movie that was released in 2002, and a rebooted animated series that came to Cartoon Network in 2016.
The live-action series is being developed by producers Diablo Cody (Juno) and Greg Berlanti (All the DC TV shows). I’m curious to see what they are planning, and I hope that they actually pull off something just as cool and enjoyable as the original series.
