Wild New Trailer for PREDATOR: BADLANDS Reveals New Creatures and Characters

For almost forty years, the Predator has been the galaxy’s ultimate hunter. A ruthless, unstoppable force that has always stood as the villain of the story. But that all changes when Predator: Badlands hits theaters. This time, the tables are turned and the Predator isn’t just the hero, he’s the underdog.

The film follows Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek, a young Predator outcast desperate to prove his worth to his father. His mission takes him to one of the deadliest planets in the galaxy, where he sets out to hunt the most dangerous creature imaginable.

To survive, he forms an unlikely partnership with Thia, a damaged Weyland-Yutani android played by Elle Fanning. At one point in the story, Thia loses her legs, and Dek literally carries her on his back as they trek through the planet’s hellish terrain.

According to the official synopsis: “Set in the future on a deadly remote planet, Badlands follows a young Predator outcast (played by newcomer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) who finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Elle Fanning) as he embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.”

The new trailer from 20th Century Studios gives us our best look yet at what’s in store, and it’s pretty awesome. We see Dek’s struggle to balance his primal instincts with genuine emotion, something that’s never been explored in this franchise before.

Director Dan Trachtenberg, who previously revitalized the series with Prey, clearly wants audiences to feel for this Predator. There’s a real emotional core here that sets Badlands apart from anything we’ve seen before.

Then there are the creatures, which are massive, terrifying, and beautifully designed. The trailers suggest that Dek’s target might be the colossal spiky gorilla creature, but that might just be a clever misdirect. There may be something deadlier waiting in the shadows.

The trailer also reveals that Dek isn’t alone in this hunt as a bunch of other characters are teased in the story. There’s a lot going on in this trailer and it opens up a lot more questions about the story and how these mysterious new characters fit into it, and whether Dek’s hunt will lead to triumph or tragedy.

With Predator: Badlands, Trachtenberg looks ready to expand the mythology of the Predator universe in wild and exciting new ways. A sympathetic Predator hero, terrifying new monsters, and a dangerous alien world all make this one of the most exciting sci-fi releases of the year.

Predator: Badlands opens in theaters on November 7.
