THE PRESTIGE Returns! Watch the Teaser Trailer for Christopher Nolan’s 2027 IMAX Re-Release
Earlier this week we reported that one of Christopher Nolan’s best films is heading back to theaters, and this time, audiences will get to experience the magic on an even bigger screen.
Now, Disney has released the first teaser trailer for the 20th anniversary re-release of The Prestige, which arrives in theaters on January 29, 2027, including screenings in IMAX 70mm.
Originally released in October 2006, The Prestige remains one of Nolan’s most compelling films, with a fantastic cast, a twisted magician rivalry, and a story that keeps you guessing right up to its final moments. Seeing it in IMAX for the first time should be a real treat.
Nolan is also excited to bring the film back to theaters, saying, "I'm very excited to bring The Prestige back to the big screen, and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on IMAX for the first time,"
Set in the late 1800s, the film stars Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, two talented magicians whose friendship turns into a bitter rivalry after a tragic accident during one of their performances.
What begins as professional competition becomes a destructive obsession as both men attempt to outdo each other with increasingly dangerous illusions. Their pursuit of the ultimate magic trick takes them from Victorian London to Colorado, with both willing to sacrifice just about everything to uncover the other's secrets.
The film also features an excellent supporting cast that includes Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, and Andy Serkis, along with the legendary David Bowie as inventor Nikola Tesla.
Based on Christopher Priest’s novel, the screenplay was written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan Nolan. The movie was produced by Nolan, Aaron Ryder, and Emma Thomas, with gorgeous cinematography by Wally Pfister and a haunting musical score by David Julyan.
The Prestige was Nolan’s fifth feature film, arriving between Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008. The thriller earned $106 million worldwide during its original theatrical run and has remained a fan favorite over the past two decades.
While Nolan is closely associated with Warner Bros., The Prestige was originally distributed domestically by Disney under its Buena Vista Pictures label, with Warner Bros. handling international distribution.
What makes The Prestige so great is how everything comes together. The performances from Jackman and Bale are outstanding, the atmosphere is incredible, and the film rewards repeat viewings as you begin noticing details that were sitting right in front of you the entire time.
It's the kind of movie that gets even better when you revisit it, especially once you know how the story plays out. Disney will bring The Prestige back to theaters on January 29, 2027, with IMAX and 70mm presentations planned.
