THE PRINCESS BRIDE Will Be Recreated by a Huge List of Celebrities Including Jack Black, Jennifer Garner, Jason Segel, Taika Waititi, and More
One upside of the pandemic and its many setbacks has been all of the fun projects that celebrities have come up with for us to enjoy, like the at-home web series, Reunited Apart, from Josh Gad, as well as the cameos and virtual get-togethers on John Krasinski’s Some Good News. Filmmakers have also gotten in on the fun, like when Taylor Morden had fans send in clips of themselves recreating scenes from Back to the Future 2 for a fan remake.
Now actors and actresses have a new project they’ve put together for fans to enjoy – a celebrity remake of the Rob Reiner-directed classic The Princess Bride. Director Jason Reitman took a break from working on the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife to put together this star-studded project to benefit the charity, World Central Kitchen, which has been working hard during the pandemic to keep restaurants afloat, and provide meals to those in need.
Reitman told Vanity Fair:
“The week that the stay-at-home order came through in California, I just woke up one of the first mornings, I think like most people did, feeling as though, All right, I need to be able to do something of value. I just thought, Can we remake an entire movie at home? And I had seen that a fan-made Star Wars had been done. I just started reaching out to actors I knew, saying, ‘Is this something you’d want to do?’ And the response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.’”
Josh Gad appears in the video as the Grandson, with Rob Reiner as the Grandpa. Common plays Westley, Tiffany Haddish portrays Princess Buttercup, and Hugh Jackman plays Humperdinck. The cast changes characters frequently, giving many actors the chance to play each part, including Jennifer Garner, Sam Rockwell, Leslie Bibb, Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka, Chris Pine, Annabelle Wallis, newlyweds Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Lucas Hedges, Jenna Ortega, David Oyelowo, Jack Black, Diego Luna, J.K. Simmons, Catherine Reitman, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Beanie Feldstein, Dave Bautista, Dennis Haysbert, Taika Waititi, David Spade, Jon Hamm, Stephen Merchant, Mackenzie Davis, Nicholas Braun, Robert Wuhl, Don Johnson, Ari Graynor, Thomas Lennon, Brandon Routh, Courtney Ford, Zoey Deutch, Zazie Beetz, Patton Oswalt and his daughter Alice, Rainn Wilson, Pedro Pascal, Jason Segel, Keegan-Michael Key, and Fred Savage reprising his role as the Grandson 33 years later.
This is apparently not even the full cast, as Reitman says there are a few more surprises in store. This is such a fun project, and such a love letter to the original film. The series is set to begin today, and we will continue to get pieces over time. Keep an eye out, and enjoy!
