THE PUNISHER is Said to Be Different Than Any of the Other Marvel Shows
Marvel's Netflix series have brought fans some great stories with some interesting characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and maybe Iron Fist, depending on how you felt he was handled. Together they form The Defenders team, the series of which is coming out soon.
One of the coolest aspects of these shows is that they allowed for the introduction of The Punisher in the MCU! I was so freakin' happy to see him included in Daredevil Season 2 and the fact that he is awesomely being played by Jon Bernthal is perfection. Now he has his own standalone series that fans have to look forward to seeing!
I can't wait to see what story this Punisher series will tell. There have been no real details revealed but in a recent interview with Combat Radio, one of the directors of the series, Stephen Sufjik, teased a little of what we can expect and says it's different from any of the other Marvel shows that have been made. When asked about the show, he said:
“I can't get into too many details, because, of course, the NDA that I've signed with Marvel are fairly comprehensive. But we finished, I finished directing the finale for The Punisher, not that long ago. So, that baby is in post-production. I think I'm allowed to say that it's really good."
He then went on to talk to talk about The Punisher being different from the other Marvel shows, saying:
“It is different than the other Marvel shows as far as it is an adult drama. There are no superpowers. You know the Punisher is a character who is based on vengeance, fundamentally. His family is a victim of some horrific thing. But the character himself is well-known and the way that they approach it is very different from the other shows.”
We've already seen The Punisher in action in the MCU, so we do have a good idea of how his character is being handled in this universe. I'm sure Bernthal has taken that same level of intensity to the characters solo series. I'm excited to find out what story they will tell and what comic story arcs they pulled from to tell it.
It's looking like The Punisher series will be released sometime in November after The Defenders, but that has yet to be officially confirmed. What story would you like to see the series tell?
