The QUANTUM LEAP Reboot Gets a Pilot Order From NBC
The reboot of the classic 90s series Quantum Leap is taking a big step forward with NBC having just ordered a pilot episode. I remember watching the series, which starred Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell, when I was a kid with my parents, and I enjoyed it! But there are only a few things I remember about it. This is a show that I would love to revisit.
The new series is set in the present time, and “it’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett (Bakula) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.”
The show is being written and executive produced by La Brea co-showrunners Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, and it’s being executive produced by Blindspot creator Martin Gero as well as Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario and co-narrator Deborah Pratt.
Scott Bakula is not currently attached to the new series to reprise his role or produce, but according to the report, he is aware of the reboot and has had conversations about getting potentially involved.
Bakula previously talked about the possibility of this reboot happening on the late Bob Saget’s podcast saying, “The rights were a mess for years. I don’t know if they’re even sorted out now. That’s always been the biggest complication.” He then added that he’d spoken occasionally to series creator Bellisario over the years about it, “and he would always say, ‘I can’t write it without thinking of you and Dean.’”
I hope that Bakula does end up coming back for the series! It’d be a shame if he didn’t.
