Warner Bros. has finalized a deal with Legendary Pictures to release Godzilla Vs. Kong in theaters on HBO Max simultaneously. The studio has now announced that the film will be released two-months earlier than expected.

The film was originally supposed to be released on May 21st, 2021. It’s now set to be released on March 26th. I have no idea if movie theaters in the major cities will be open by then, but this is a movie that I want to see on the big screen! But, living in L.A. I might be forced to watch it on HBO Max.

Adam Wingard (The Guest, Your Next, Death Note) is directing the film, and it will see the two iconic giant monsters clash amid a "human conspiracy" to wipe out the giant monsters for good. Here’s the synopsis:

In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

There was also a little blurb teasing that one of these titans will stand to become King of the Monsters, and one will fall. It reads:

"As the gigantic Kong meets the unstoppable Godzilla, the world watches to see which one of them will become King of the Monsters."

The crossover event stars Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Shun Oguri (Gintama), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Demian Bichir (The Nun), Van Marten (The Walking Dead), and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon).

It was also previously reported that the film’s score will be composed by Tom Holkenborg, a.k.a. Junkie XL, the man behind Mad Max: Fury Road or Alita: Battle Angel.
