The Release Date for MORBIUS Gets Pushed Back by Three Months
Sony Pictures has pushed the release date back yet again for their Marvel vampire film Morbius. The news comes after Spider-Man: No Way Home blew up at the box office pulling in over a billion dollars.
Morbius has been pushed back three months from January 28th, 2022 to April 1st, 2022. I believe this is the sixth time that the released date has been shifted. The very first release date it was given was July 10th, 2020.
There’s no information given as to why Morbius has a new release date, but I imagine it’s because No Way Home is still raking in the cash at the box office, and they want to create some distance before they released their next big Marvel movie.
The film stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius as "a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles.”
Leto is joined by Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Crown, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Terror) in the film along with Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, who was engaged to Morbius before he accidentally turned himself into a vampire. She ends up becoming a potential victim as Morbius learns to cope with his insatiable bloodlust. Matt Smith is also in the film and plays Loxias Crown. Oh yeah! Michael Keaton is back as Vulture!
Morbius was directed by Daniel Espinosa, and it will be released in theaters January 28th, 2022.
