Here we go again. Sony Pictures has announced that they are pushing the release date of Venom: Let There Be Carnage back again. The movie was supposed to be release don September 24th, but it’s now going to be released on October 15th.

The movie was already delayed several times due to the pandemic, and now with the delta variant of COVID-19 putting people back in a state of fear, the studio has decided to delay the movie. It’s explained that the “surge has led to a decline in consumer confidence in returning to the movies. According to a recent survey conducted by the National Research Group, 67% of moviegoers say they’re ‘very or somewhat comfortable’ visiting their local multiplex — which is a dip of 3% compared to last week, and down 14% from one month ago.”

Because of this, the movie theater business hasn’t been able to fully recover from the past year and a half. I went to the movie theater recently in Burbank, CA., which was selling out movies at one point when the theaters in Los Angeles open back up, but this time there was hardly anyone in the theater and I was pretty surprised.

It’s also probably one of the reasons why James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has a disappointing box office opening weekend only making only making $26.5 million. Sony probably saw that was was like “Oh shit! We should probably push Venom back again!” Everyone expected The Suicide Squad to do so much better.

Andy Serkis directed the film that stars Tom Hardy as Venom, Woody Harrelson as Carnage, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Naomie Harris (Moonlight), who is reportedly playing the villain Shriek, Carnage’s love interest and accomplice.
