The Release of COBRA KAI Season 3 Will Not Be Affected By The Pandemic
Cobra Kai Season 1 and 2 are coming to Netflix on August 28th. We have no idea when to expect Season 3 to drop, but according to series creator Josh Herald, the pandemic we are currently in will not affect the release date, whatever that date is. In an interview with CBR, he said:
“Thankfully with Season 3, we wrapped production before the end of 2019 and we wrapped post-production…I think there was a little bit of overlap. We were still doing some finishing touches for the effects and some quality checks on Season 3 while the quarantine aspect of the pandemic was just beginning but we finished our final mix — the last big piece of post-production — that was done in-person with raising champagne and eating cupcakes and all the things you do to feel like you’re at your absolute unhealthiest coming out of the completion of a season. [Laughs] So there were no major delays in terms of COVID.”
Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. The series picks up “34 years after events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, [when] a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now-successful Daniel LaRusso.”
It was previously teased by Hurwitz, that the third season would be the biggest one yet. When asked about what they could reveal regarding the next season, it was said that it would be heading to Okinawa. Schlossberg went on to say:
“In this series, we get to re-explore these movies within the light of modern storytelling and where we are in our own lives now. So we love the idea of going back to Okinawa as...it continues the general theme of being able to look at the past in a completely different light as adults. One of the fun things about the show is we’re so ingrained with these memories. I mean, not everybody has seen The Karate Kid but a lot of people have seen it. And for us and a whole generation of people, these are images and moments and movies that are ingrained in our lives and in our past. And so we can write stories where characters are reflecting on their own lives and you as the audience are really connected because you remember those experiences. And I think people have had those moments in the first two seasons of Cobra Kai and Okinawa really allows for even more of that. So we’re excited for people to see that. It’s continuing what we love about this show.”
We know that Season 3 will premiere at some point in 2020. Hopefully, we get a release date soon. I would love it if we get a surprise release at the same that the first two seasons drop on Netflix. I’m excited to see where the story goes from where Season 2 left off and I hope that Elisabeth Shue shows up!
