The Release of WONDER WOMAN 1984 Has Been Pushed to August

We previously heard rumors that Warner Bros. had been discussing what to do with the release of Wonder Woman 1984. As they discussed all their options, including the possibility of releasing it on VOD, the studio has decided to push the theatrical release date from June 5th to August 24th.

The studio has also pulled the release date for Jon Chu’s adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights as well as the new Scooby-Doo movie Scoob. They are also pumping James Wan’s upcoming horror thriller Malignant. All these films currently have no release dates.

Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman, said in a statement:

“When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on Aug. 14. We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.”

The delay of these films and more are inevitable as we have no idea how long movie theaters will be closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. But, as of right now, according to the report, there’s a good chance that movie theaters will remain closed until at least June. Damn.

When theaters do eventually open back up, if they survive the economic turmoil, it will be interesting to see how eager audiences will be to return. I imagine it will start off slow, but then build back up to normal. But, we’ll see! One thing is for sure, when movie theaters open back up I’ll be one of the first to head back to theaters to watch movies!
