THE RIGHT STUFF Adds 8 More to Its Cast

The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe is being adapted into a series for National Geographic. The latest to join the project include Joe Dempsie, James Lafferty, Jake McDorman, Aaron Staton, Micah Stock, and Micheal Trotter. They join the already announced Patrick J. Adams. This group of actors will portray the Mercury Seven who were “the test pilots who became the first group of astronauts for the United States.”

The Right Stuff opens in the height of the Cold War, following the Soviet Union’s successful launch of the Sputnik satellite into orbit. NASA’s Project Mercury makes instant celebrities of the seven test pilots tapped to be future astronauts, portrayed as heroes before they actually do anything heroic.

Wolfe’s book will be used for the first season with later seasons covering the U.S. space program beyond the Apollo missions. Adams is going to portray John Glenn, Dempsie will be Gordon Cooper, Lafferty will portray Scott Carpenter, McDorman will be Alan Shepard, Staton is Wally Schirra, Stock will be Deke Slayton, and Trotter will play Gus Grissom. The Right Stuff is set to premiere in 2020.
