THE RUNNER Trailer Sees Gal Gadot Fighting the Clock to Save Her Son in Prime Video Thriller
Gal Gadot is trading in her superhero lasso for a desperate race through the streets of London in the first trailer for The Runner, an upcoming Prime Video action thriller that looks like it's going to keep audiences on edge from start to finish.
Gadot has done plenty of sprinting on screen over the years as Wonder Woman, but The Runner throws her into a much more grounded and terrifying situation.
This time, she plays Maia Marten, a successful London attorney whose life is turned upside down when her son is kidnapped. With no time to think and nowhere to turn, she's forced into a relentless chase across the city while following the orders of a mysterious voice on the other end of the phone.
The trailer teases a tense game of cat and mouse as Maia races through London, trying to stay one step ahead while uncovering the truth behind a much larger conspiracy. The anonymous caller, who appears to be played by Damian Lewis, is pulling every string, leaving Maia with impossible choices if she wants to see her son alive again.
The official synopsis reads: "Threatened by an anonymous source who has kidnapped her son, MAIA, a lawyer, must travel on foot throughout London to kill a client she represents to save her son."
Alongside Gadot and Lewis, the film stars Alfred Enoch, Kenton Lloyd Morgan, and Rory Wilmot. The film is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald, whose previous work includes The Last King of Scotland, The Mauritanian, and State of Play. The screenplay was written by Mark Gibson.
For Gadot, The Runner marks another big action role following appearances in Heart of Stone, Red Notice, Death on the Nile, Snow White, and In the Hand of Dante.
Fans also saw her make a surprise return as Gisele Yashar in Fast X, bringing the fan favorite character back into the Fast & Furious saga after years away. Whether she'll be back again for the franchise's planned finale, Fast Forever, remains a mystery, but the ending of Fast X certainly left the door wide open.
Of course, Gadot is still best known for playing Diana Prince across seven DC films, beginning with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before leading the hugely successful Wonder Woman. While later appearances didn't reach the same level of success, fan did enjoy her version of Wonder Woman.
The Runner premieres exclusively on Prime Video on September 2.
